It is with profound sorrow that the family of Brandon Taylor James Bananish announces his passing on Monday, May 17, 2021 in Fort Frances, ON.
Brandon was born June 29, 1991 in Thunder Bay, ON. He spent his childhood in Lac La Croix First Nation, Long Lake # 58 First Nation and Thunder Bay before settling in Fort Frances. Brandon was intelligent, witty, kind, compassionate and generous. He was very loyal, loving and protective of his family and friends. He had close relationships with his family and adored his children and their mother, Shantelle. In recent years, Brandon struggled with addiction, however; maintained a positive outlook on life and saw the goodness in others. His family loved him and was always there to support him. Brandon enjoyed fishing and loved hockey; he was an avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan.
He will be lovingly remembered by his children Amaya Bananish, Nathan Bananish, Avery Bananish and Waabun Bananish and their mother, the love of his life, Shantelle Geyshick; parents Carrie Atatise-Norwegian and Lawrence Norwegian; father Shawn Bananish; siblings Cree Atatise-Chisholm, Sai’zha Norwegian, Brooke Hardy, Liam Hardy-Bananish, Shawna Shebagabow, Joshua Bananish, Jared Bananish, Ashler Bananish and Shawn Bananish Jr. Grandparents Nora Jourdain and James Atatise Sr. Brandon was blessed with a large family of aunts, uncles and cousins from the Atatise/Boshey, Jourdain, Bananish, Abraham and Norwegian families who loved him tremendously. Special mention to: Brad Atatise and Tracy Ottertail, Ed Atatise and Shannon, Ted Atatise and Loretta, James Atatise Jr., Crystal and Don McLeod, Marcel Bananish Sr and Lorena Bananish; cousins Donald McLeod Jr, Janelle Jourdain, Kevin Atatise, Mark Atatise, Marcel Bananish Jr. Jessica Atatise and Landen Jourdain.
Brandon was predeceased by his grandparents Jim and Diane Grant with whom he shared a special relationship; sister Waabun Cree; great grandparents Mary P. Jourdain, Mary E. Jourdain and Andrew P. Jourdain, Elizabeth and John Boshey/Edward Atatise and aunt Isobel Jourdain.
A traditional wake will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2021 followed by a traditional ceremony to be held on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at the Zhingwaako Zaaga’igan Gymnasium. Brandon will be laid to rest in Lac La Croix First Nation. The loss of Brandon represents a deep loss to us and to many others.
The pallbearers will be Ted Atatise, Edward Atatise Jr, Brad Atatise, Trion Jourdain, Conrad Jourdain, Henry Geyshick, Brandon Geyshick, Clint Geyshick, Randy Geyshick, Freeman Trottier, Donald McLeod Jr and numerous other family and friends.
Due to COVID 19 Restrictions attendance will be limited and everyone will be asked to wear masks and to follow social distancing requirements.
