Alex Wilson

October 13, 1921 – December 18, 2021
Obituary of Alex Wilson

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alex Melville Wilson, age 100 years, of Alberton Township, Ontario on Saturday December 18, 2021 at LaVerendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ontario.

Mel was born on October 13, 1921 in Fort Frances, ON to the late Hugh Alexander Wilson and Agnes (Hastie) Wilson.

On December 31, 1945 he married Elsie Ulrich in Winnipeg, MB. In 1946, they moved back to Alberton Township. Mel lived for over 100 years in Alberton TWSP, except for his service in the Canadian Airforce in WWII. Elsie and Mel raised three children on their farm. Mom and Dad enjoyed travelling across the country in their R.V. and visiting many family and friends. Dad retired from the local paper mill in 1986.

Dad, Grandpa will be sadly missed by everyone around him.

Mel was predeceased by his wife Elsie on February 8th, 2013, brother Vernon Wilson, Elsie’s sister, Margaret Hoplock, brother in law Arnold Ulrich, brothers-in-law Mike Hoplock, Walter Markowski and sister-in- law Eileen Ulrich, one sister in law, Adeline Markowski, and one sister-in-law Agnes Wilson.

Mel is survived by; two sons, Gerry (Cathy) Wilson of Alberton TWSP, Brian Wilson (Evelyn) of Fort Frances, ON; one daughter, Cheryl (Lyndon) Hughes of Fort Frances, ON.; eight grandchildren, Kari-Lynn (Shane) Beckett, Mandy (Greg) Hammer, Jeremy Wilson, Ashley (Austin) Helie, Travis, Melissa, Tylar, and Timothy Hughes; and seven great-grandchildren, Morgan and Hayden Beckett, Logan, Corbin and Lucy Hammer, Max and Colt Helie. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A private family funeral service will take place in Fort Frances, Ontario at a later time.
