Sorry to hear the passing of Abs. Played hockey with him back in Atkokan in the 70's. Great guy. My condolences to his family. My prayers and thoughts are with you at this time.

as a relative thru the george,calder, and armit family of which I am very proud Abs greatest trait was his friendliness towards everyone he met. Once Ab met you he would remember you wherever you met , years later.I hope Atikokanites when they construct their new arena they remember Ab as he had the biggest heart for the youth of Atikokan and sports

being a relative by way of the Georges, Calders and Armits which I am proud to belong the greatest trait Ab had was his friendliness to everyone  he met.Once Ab knew you he remembered you forever regardless where you met up again. I hope Atikokanites remember Ab when they construct their new Arena because Ab had all the youth of Atikokan in his heart , especially with sports. God bless his family at this most difficult time.

Anglie and family, I was very sorry to hear about the passing of Abs. I have a lot of fond memories of Abs as a young boy growing up in Atikokan.  Abs has some influence on my life,  my working career  and my competitive spirit. My 1st encounter with Abs was around the age of 15 or 16 where  I participated in a pick-up hockey game with the older intermediate league players. I played against Abs where Abs owned the ice at that time and elbowed me in the face. I was totally taken by surprise he then went on to trash talk me  a bit with that  big smile on his face. A lasting memory.
In summer we all played baseball in Atikokan, Abs was on the Angels, I started out with my Dad's team the  Smokies.  Abs always wore sunglasses.  Abs played right field and could hit homers. Eventually Abs gave me my 1st job at Sapawe.   Abs retired from playing ball to coaching ball,  a new baseball team was formed called the Canoe Canada whips . All the players had jobs at Sapawe and we all had nick names selected by Abs; white pine, jack pine, Dick-Dack, Humf etc We  were a  pretty young inexperience baseball team but liked a good time and try very hard to be competitive.  We made the finals in the Atikokan  league one year beating the Angels in the semi-finals, Abs was very proud of this accomplishment.  Abs liked to win and he pass this characteristic onto all the players on the team.  I had few beers with Abs at the family cabin on Rainy Lake where Dick-Dack was on the guitar and Abs singing.  I did my 1st scuba drive in front the cabin where I picked a few antique liquor bottles off the bottom of the lake. I still have the bottles and think about the good old baseball days with Abs at the helm.  Abs always gave me a summer job while I was going to university.
He was a good friend  of my parents and recently has been visiting my Dad on a regular basis at the Town office and he cared about the future of Atikokan. 
Some  35 years later  Abs still care about passing his hockey knowledge onto  the younger hockey players in Atikokan, my nephew Parker Sampson  learn some of his skill from Abs. He  will always be a good friend and spirited competitor who will be truly missed.  Stay Strong.

Ange and family: My children and I were very to hear of Ab's unexpected death. He was always so helpful, cheerful, interested and opinionated - he brightened our day whenever we got together. Thinking of you lots during this sad time.

I am very sorry to hear of Abs passing. As a former member of the BNH Team, I have many fond memories of Ab from this time. My thoughts go to his family.

We always enjoyed Abs' visits to the cabin when we were in town visiting, he would play with the kids, sit and chat and always had something interesting on the go - our hearts go out to all of you

I grew up in Atikokan and have a lot of great memories of playing fastball, hockey and "tipping a few" with Abs! I was at the cabin in the Fort a few times years ago with him and know he loved it there. We don't all get a choice of where we will exit this world but I'm sure that would have been Albert's. It was an honour to call him a friend and offer my deepest condolences to the family!

I did not have the pleasure of meeting this loved man, but I do have the honour of calling one of his children my best friend.  I know that Tara has many of her father's wonderful qualities including "larger than life personality", love of the youth and sports, the outdoors, and generosity to others.  I am sad for my friend and her family--sounds like the world has lost a great one!

To the family - my thoughts and prayers are with you. I have fond memories of working with Ab both at the mill and recently at Tara's home.  He will be missed.

To the family of Ab George - my deepest condolences - he was a wonderful man. I had the pleasure of knowing Ab through my tenure at Mckenzie Forest Products and Great West Timber. He will be remembered fondly by many.
