Harold D. Fitzsimmons, "Fitz", age 82, native of Boston, former longtime resident of Oak Park, passed away peacefully March 30, 2016 in his North Riverside home. Beloved husband of Helene, nee Bralles; loving father of Liz (Tony) Natale, Greg (Marla) and Mary (Tom) Wilson; proud Papa Fitz of Candie, Tony and Tori; great Papa Fitz of Nicholas, Davie and Violet; survived by brother Jim Fitzsimmons and preceded in death by siblings John, Joseph, Mildred Higgins, William, Richard, Robert, Donald and Paul Fitzsimmons. After serving for the U.S. Air Force in Korea, Fitz had an impressive 50 year career in law enforcement. He began as a patrolman in Riverside, working his way up to deputy chief in Oak Park, police chief of the Brookfield Zoo, police chief of Lisle and then working in the DuPage Metropolitan Enforcement Group from where he retired. Memorial visitation Saturday April 16th 2PM until 4PM with Memorial Service beginning at 4 PM at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 7750 W. Cermak Rd., Forest Park.
