Georgiana E. Soumar, née Janousek, 96, passed away on June 2, 2024. She spent her life devoted to her family and was beloved by many. She was born January, 1928, in Cicero, Illinois, to Elizabeth and Albert Janousek. She married Charles O. Soumar of Berwyn, Illinois, in May, 1949. He preceded her in death in December 1976. She is survived by her daughter, Gail (James) Huizinga of Tallula, Illinois, son, Charles Soumar of Geneva, Illinois and son, Gary (Amy) Soumar of Oak Park, Illinois. She is also survived by grandchildren, Kyle (Sara), Kent (Monica), Keith (Shelly), Shelby (Kyle), Hunter, Jack, and Erin as well as great-grandchildren, Calvin, Georgiana, Josephine, Waylon, and Bodhi.
After graduation from Morton High School in Cicero, Illinois, Georgiana worked at Bell Telephone in Chicago as a long-distance operator. She was later employed at Midland Pipe Services as a receptionist. While raising her family, Georgiana was a member and officer of the PTA and PTO and spent a great deal of time volunteering in and out of the local schools. After raising her family, she became active in the family business, Soumar’s Upholstery Shop. Throughout her life, she enjoyed camping, boating, and traveling with her husband, family, and friends.
Visitation Thursday, June 6, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 7750 West Cermak Road, Forest Park, IL 60130. Chapel service Friday, June 7, 2024, at 12pm. Interment to follow at 1pm, Woodlawn Memorial Park, 7750 Cermak Rd, Forest Park, IL 60130.
