Tony was born May 21, 1914 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Alois Turek and Marie Erbal. He spent the majority of his life in the Chicago land area where he met and married Dorothy C. Grafer who passed away in 1987. During his career, Tony owned and operated a restaurant, along with working several years as a tool and die worker and as a lab technician in the manufacturing industry. After his retirement, he bought property near the Ozark Mountains where he could enjoy the outdoors. He eventually moved to the Lafayette area to be near family where he earned the nickname the “Music Man” after creating all of the music for a senior citizens exercise group. He was featured in the Lafayette Journal and Courier for his efforts. In addition, Tony loved to dance and enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by three children, James (Diane) Turek of Ann Arbor, MI, Mary (Michael) Silver of Chicago, IL and John (Rosa) Turek of Lafayette, IN; thirteen grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers and sisters, James, Eleanor, Beatrice, Libby and Jerry.
Funeral Services will take place on Saturday, January 10, 2015, 11:00 AM at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 7750 West Cermak Road, Forest Park, IL 60130. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to donor’s choice of charity. Local arrangemenst by Woodlawn Funeral Home, Forest Park.
