Miriam Safier, our beloved Mother, Grandmother and Sister passed away on December 21, 2023 at the age of 85. Miriam was born in Poland on July 31, 1938 when Europe was at war and life was all about survival.
Miriam came to the United States when she was still a child and grew up in Philadelphia with her mother Anna, father Oscar, and beloved brother Michael [Ellen]. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Temple University in 1961. After meeting Henry, her future husband and the father of her children, she moved to New York where she lived the rest of her life.
Over more than five decades, she has cherished and adored her children, Elaine [Josh] and Barry [Janet], and grandchildren Joshua, Emily and Austen, above and beyond anything else in the world and dedicated her life to them. There was nothing she wouldn’t and didn’t do for them.
Miriam also showed genuine kindness, understanding, and empathy for her friends, neighbors, and even casual acquaintances – she is the rare person for whom everyone she touched had only good things to say.
Saying she will be missed is a huge understatement – she was a truly exceptional human being.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, December 28th at Schwartz Brothers – Jeffer Memorial Chapels at 114-03 Queens Boulevard in Forest Hills. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Please see the link below.
