September 28, 2024 - Martin Leonard Stecklow passed peacefully surrounded by his wife and children. He was born in Brooklyn, New York on April 24, 1939 to Thomas and Lillian Stecklow and raised in Brooklyn and Valley Stream with his 3 siblings. He graduated from CW Post College on Long Island and was married soon after to his life-long love, Judi Stecklow nee Arbeitman. He worked in the family business with his father and brothers for many years. During his general contracting career, he built Pershing Park in Washington DC as well as many of the DC Metro System stops, and the Bethesda Fountain in Central Park. He raised a family in Lido Beach, New York before they moved to Rockville, Maryland for some years, and eventually returned to Roslyn, NY. For the past 20 years he has lived in Bayside, Queens. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, his children, Mindy Stecklow (Glen Orenstein), Wylie Stecklow (Joyce Rajman Stecklow), Steven Stecklow (Jacqueline Gold), and his grandchildren Mikaela and Justin Orenstein, step grandchildren, Casey and Matthew Gold, Andres and Sergio Martinez Rajman, his sister Elaine Siev, his brother William Stecklow and is predeceased by brother Arthur Stecklow. Donations can be made to United Jewish Appeal, an organization where his wife worked for 23 years.
A chapel service for Martin will be held Monday, September 30, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Sinai Chapels, 114-03 Queens Blvd, Forest Hills, NY 11375. Following the chapel service will be a committal service from 2:15 PM to 3:15 PM at New Montefiore Cemetery, 1180 Wellwood Ave, West Babylon, NY 11704.
