Henry Safier was born in Rudnik nad Sanem, Poland to Simon and Sabina Safier on November 18, 1933. He attended Brooklyn College and then earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Basel Medical School in 1960. Henry served as a Captain in the US Army from 1961 through 1963.
Henry completed residencies at The Brooklyn Hospital Center and the James J. Peters VA Medical Center, was Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology, and was a member of the American College of Gastroenterology, the American College of Physicians, and the American Geriatrics Society. He cared passionately about his patients and was committed to serving his community for over 40 years through his private practice and affiliations with a number of hospitals, including the Parkway Hospital in Forest Hills. After leaving his practice, he taught at Queens Hospital.
Henry is survived by his wife Oleksandra Principato, her daughter Kira [Jay], his former wife Miriam and their two children Elaine and Barry [Janet], grandchildren Joshua, Emily, and Austen, and his sister Felicia.
Funeral Services will be held at 9:00 AM on Friday, November 12th at Schwartz Brothers – Jeffer Memorial Chapels at 114-03 Queens Boulevard in Forest Hills. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be directed to Feed the Children or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
