Without Claire Shulman, there would not be Community Media. Claire was instrumental in negotiations with the Cable Operators and the Municipality during the early 1980’s. Her efforts and hard work allowed the residents of Queens an opportunity to have their voices heard. Those voices continue to be heard today! I’m honored to have worked with her!

I had the honor to work for Claire, which gave me the opportunity to work for an exemplary public servant.  I am grateful for all of her vision and kindness.

I loved Claire Shulman. From the moment we met, she felt intimate, familiar, someone I had always known.  Claire had a non-negotiable commitment to use government as a force for good, a value that was deeply etched in my own upbringing.  She wanted the best for Queens – the best theater, the best art museum, the best botanical garden, and, of course, a world-class science center. We would not be possible, were it not for Claire.  When Claire visited the Hall of Science, her eyes would sparkle, her hands would slap her knees, and she would say: “Oh how I wish I were 10 all over again.”

The Executive Officers and members of the Greater Whitestone Taxpayers Civic Association would like to express our condolences to Ms Shulman’s family. Claire was always an ardent supporter for her home borough of Queens and all its residents. She will be missed.
