For many years I had the pleasure of seeing the Burns’ at Mass every week.  Bill was a nice man, had a good sense of humor and he will be missed.

Billy was always held in very high regard by the Lynch Family of Pearse St. Dublin and  spoken of with great affection by my late Mum Teresa  and Sr. Bertrand (Jane)  over the years.

I was deeply saddened to hear the news of Billy’s recent passing and wish to convey my heartfelt sympathy to his wife Theresa, his daughter Eileen, son Liam, his brother John, his sister Christina, and his much-loved grandchildren, at this sad time.

The late Joe Kearney, Woodside, introduced me to Mr. Burns at his bar - Carlow East in June 1997 and thus began a firm friendship. He was a man of the greatest integrity, humility, generosity, and loyalty, traits which manifested themselves in the help and sage advice he gave, not only to me but to many others like me, on arriving in New York. Indeed, he was instrumental in securing employment for hundreds of people across a multitude of industries.

He was proud of his Longford roots and always took a keen interest in the happenings at home. He reminisced too about his early years in Dublin, where he served his time. I have extremely fond memories of those conversations with him at his home in College Point where I enjoyed the warmest welcome from him and Mrs. Burns. 

I am happy that I had the opportunity to speak with him a month or so ago. Sadly, meeting him again on my next visit to New York is not to be, and that I deeply regret.

Ni bheidh a leithéid aris ann (The likes of him will never be again)

I am very sorry to hear this news. Billy was a good friend of my fathers Brendan Gormley.  I remember visiting your family in New York when I was young.  My dad talked about Billy often . I remember visiting the Carlo East with my Dad many years ago. May he rest in peace ❤️

My sincere condolences to Teresa and the family on Billy's sad passing. I spent time in New York back in the 80s and 90s  during which time I became good friends with Billy, he was one of life's true gentlemen. I continued to visit his home in college point any time I returned to New York and was always feel welcome. I'm truly saddened to hear of his passing. Rest easy Billy, there's surely a special place in Heaven..RIP.

My uncle Jimmy Flynn took me to The Carlow East on arrival to New York in 1974 as it was one of his favourite places to go.
Billy was kind to everyone as he was to me and manys a young person especially coming from Ireland.  My brothers Paul and Martin will remember him fondly as well as they met him like me on arrival.
