Born January 6th, 1935 in Kingston, Jamaica, W.I. Norma is survived by her daughter Ingrid Nicole Allison; her sister Margaret Brown and her brother Winston James. Also her Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. Norma was preceded in death by her father Joshua Cedric James and her mother Maude Isabel Johnson-James, her brother Anthony James, and sister Myrna James.
Norma attended Central Branch Elementary school and Excelsior High School. Followed by Secretarial School for shorthand and typing. During the 1950's, Norma began her first job working for the American Consulate in Kingston, Jamaica as a receptionist. In 1963 Norma migrated to New York City. She began working for the company S.P.I and Hyatt Regency Hotel at the Grand Central Station location, till the 1970's. Then, in the 1980's she worked for the Xerox Company. During the 1990's Norma worked for the
PR Newswire Media Co. and later retired in 2008.
Norma had a love for many things. Such as gardening, and always had fresh flowers in her home. She loved to travel, her favorite city to visit was Paris, France. She also loved entertaining family and friends at her home. Norma loved going to museums and galleries. She was a member of the MET ,MoMA. and also supported the PBS television station. Norma loved to shop, and had excellent taste in buying clothes. Every Mother's Day she would go to Saks Fifth Avenue to buy a bottle of perfume.
A memorial service for Norma will be held Sunday, October 27, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Quinn - Fogarty Funeral Home, 192-15 Northern Blvd, Flushing, New York 11358.
