Loving Joseph, "Joe", was like having your own personal sunshine. He could turn the weather in any room. The life of any party, big or small- his laugh was contagious and constant. Whether he was saltwater fishing, eating the best meals, spending the afternoon with friends at the American Legion, or cheering the Yankees from the comfort of his recliner, he maximized every moment he had with a persistent smile, and grateful love for life.
A lifetime Bayside resident, Joseph was born on October 30, 1955. A painter by trade, he worked for the New York City Housing Authority for many years, retiring at an early age to spend more time with his loved ones. As a parishioner of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, he had deep faith in God and prayer.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Donna Craig, his true love of more than 30 years. He was dedicated to ensuring she would be surrounded by care and love. In addition, Joseph leaves behind his dear nieces, Regina LeValley (Josh) and Anne DiNapoli Block (Lewis), adored great nieces and nephews, many cherished cousins, and the best of friends, who were more like family.
Joseph is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Walter and Irene Schmidt, father, Philip DiNapoli II, and brother, Philip DiNapoli III. The family is comforted knowing Joe is reunited with his loved ones, and that his love for us will shine forever.
Due to COVID-19, a funeral mass at Blessed Sacrament will be planned at a later date and the family will notify all to gather to celebrate Joe. A private family burial will take place at Nassau Knolls in Port Washington on Tuesday, April 14, 2020. Please pray and celebrate his beautiful life, whether you are near or far. In lieu of flowers, please invest in protecting your family and community during this critical time.
