John J. Cawley “Jack”, 86, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2020 surrounded by his family after a long and courageous battle with various ailments. Jack was born in New York City, and resided in Flushing for the past 47 years.
Jack was a loyal brother at the Knights of Columbus—3701 George W. Hudson Council for over fifty years. As well as being devoted to his family, Jack loved the New York Yankees. He was an FDNY fire “buff” and spent many nights listening to runs on his fire radio. In 2015, Jack was gifted the title of Honorary Battalion Chief for the FDNY, he was now one of “the bravest”.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Margaret; his adoring children, Brendan and Kristin; and his most precious granddaughter, Kathryn Michael, who brought tremendous joy to his life. He is survived by his brother, Thomas Cawley, II. He was loved by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.
Jack was predeceased by his mother and father, Thomas and Katherine Cawley; sisters Helen Cawley, Josephine Mulqueen, and Pat Flatley. He was also predeceased by his cherished son, Michael Joseph Cawley, who he’s now reunited with in Gods kingdom.
Jack was a kind man, and had an unyielding faith which he lived by.
