Joan Ann Volmar, age 84, of Flushing, NY passed away peacefully on Friday, February 12, 2021. Joan was born in Brooklyn, NY and attended high school at Jamaica High School. Joan lived in Flushing and worked as a secretary in the legal and medical business. She enjoyed her Holy Family church community, neighborhood friends, and vacations with her extended family.
She looked forward to visits with her brother’s family and her many nieces and nephew. She was quick-witted, loved to laugh, and enjoyed games, crafts, and celebrating holidays. Joan loved Halloween and was known to enthusiastically dress up to hand out candy and entertain friends and neighbors.
Joan was predeceased by her parents Anna and Walter Volmar Sr., and her brother, Walter J. Volmar. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Marjorie Volmar, nieces Lisa Volmar (Thomas Stephens) and Teresa (Michael) Swany of Fayetteville, GA, great nieces Kathryn (Steven) Beck, Annie Stephens (Mike Lewis) of Louisville, KY, Lauren Swany of Rochester, MN, Morgan (1LT Marco) Amalfitano of Fort Campbell, KY, and great nephew, Wyatt Stephens of Fayetteville, GA.
The family will have a committal service at Calvary Cemetery, Queens, NY and a virtual memorial service in the upcoming weeks.
Charitable donations may be made in Joan Volmar’s name to Holy Family Parish, Flushing, NY, or the charity of your choice.
