Joan A. Coffey of Cornwall , NY passed away on April 12, 2014. She was born on September 22, 1932 in Flushing, NY to Frank and Nora Stokes. She moved to Cornwall a year ago to be closer to her son and his family. She enjoyed her new home and friends in Cornwall and participated in many activities, including bingo, movies and casino bus trips.
Joan worked for over 20 years at Queensborough Community College in Bayside, NY as administrative assistant to the President, as well as to several deans. She was proud of receiving her BA degree in business administration later in life while working. She was an active member of the senior citizens group at St. Andrew’s church and has stayed in touch with many friends there.
Joan is survived by her son John Coffey and his wife Kathy of Rock Tavern, NY; grandsons Brian and Timothy Coffey; nieces Noreen Kaim, Patricia Raffloer, Karen Rennie, Kathleen Minutoli and Cari Burhenne; and nephews Fred Schmidt and Jimmy Schmidt. She was predeceased by her longtime love Sam Mudaro and her siblings, Dorothy Stokes, Frank Stokes, Rosemary Bertsch and Raymond Stokes.
Visitation will be at the Frederick Funeral Home of Flushing, Northern Blvd. at 193rd Street. Visiting Hours are Monday, April 14 from 2-5 & 7-9 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:45 am Tuesday, April 15 at St. Andrew Avellino R. C. Church. Entombment will be at Mt. St. Mary’s Cemetery
