James E. "Jimmy" Mattson, 73, of Flushing, passed away on January 2, 2025. Born on December 12, 1951, Jimmy was a devoted father to his son, James, and a beloved brother to Karen, Tommy, Eddie, Marilyn, and Eric. He was predeceased by his brothers, Ricky and Billy. He was loved deeply by all of his nieces and their children who Jimmy had a soft spot in his heart for.
A lifelong New Yorker, Jimmy found joy in the hustle of the city, yet his heart always found peace when he was upstate, surrounded by nature. For 30 years, he worked nights tirelessly at Pepsi, earning the respect of all who knew him for his dedication and work ethic.
An eternal Yankees and Jets fan, Jimmy lived for the game, always ready with a joke, a laugh, and a prank up his sleeve. His love for family and friends was boundless, and his passion for mowing the lawn—meticulously perfect—was unmatched. You could always find a big smile on Jimmy’s face when there was a fishing pole in his hand. He enjoyed days on the boat whether it was a group of friends or a more simple trip with his brothers. Another one of Jimmy’s hobbies included horse racing. He enjoyed going to Saratoga every summer!
Jimmy’s warmth, his sense of humor, and his larger-than-life spirit will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. On “the hill” Jimmy was known by his friends as 1J. If you know than you know….
He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, hard work, and love, and his memory will continue to grow like the greenest of lawns he so lovingly tended.
A visitation for James will be held Wednesday, January 8, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Frederick Funeral Home, 192-15 Northern Boulevard, Flushing, NY 11358.Cremation is private.
