James Frank Lisa was born on August 25, 1919 in Corona, NY to James Lisa and Inez Lisa (Roman). James was raised in Corona alongside his younger brother Frank, and was an avid hockey player and aspiring journalist. He graduated from the Drake School of Journalism before being drafted into the US Army in September of 1942. James served his country proudly in WWII as part of the 31st Infantry Division. He was awarded a Purple Heart & Bronze Star while stationed in New Guinea and also received a commendation for heroic conduct in the Philippines. Upon his honorable discharge in January 1946 he went to work for the United States Post Office. James started as a letter carrier and rose to Director of Customer Service prior to his retirement in 1978. It was while delivering mail to a dress shop in Corona that he met Amelia Fasano. James proposed to Amelia at a cookout on Jones Beach and they were married in June of 1950. They raised three beautiful girls in a small house in Fresh Meadows. After retirement, James became a Tax Preparer working for local firms and then continued to provide services to friends and family in his home where he lived independently until his passing. He attributed his longevity to continued learning and keeping himself busy.
James was the cornerstone of his family, a constant source of support and love. He will be greatly missed by all those who had the pleasure to know him.
James is survived by his devoted daughter, Inez, his beloved grandchildren Andrew, Scott (Babette), Graham, Matthew, Timothy (Sarah), & Katelyn (Mark) and by loving great grand-children, Matthew, Tiffany, Leah, Grant & Cole. James is preceded in death by his mother Inez, father James, brothers Robert and Frank, his wife Amelia, and his daughters Ann Marie & Janet.
