The middle of three children, Ardelia embodied elegance, grace, and dignity throughout her life. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from the historically Black college, Alabama A&M University, where she met the love of her life, the late David Rollins, who preceded her in death in 2021. The two were married and eventually moved to New York, where they built a life and legacy together raising a family of four children, Ivary, Ricardo, Michael and Eric.
Ardelia dedicated many years of her life as a teacher's assistant at Milton L. Olive Middle school where she touched the lives of countless students with her patience, wisdom and unwavering commitment to their success. After many years of service, she retired, leaving behind a legacy of education and encouragement.
Outside of her professional life, Ardelia was an avid reader with an insatiable love for novels. She could often be found engrossed in the pages of a book, finding new worlds to explore and stories to cherish. Her creativity and innate talent for design were evident in the beautiful ways she regularly decorated her home. Every space she touched reflected her vibrant spirit and impeccable taste.
Ardelia also served faithfully as a deaconess at New Hope Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York for many years, demonstrating her deep faith and dedication to her community. Upon relocating to Georgia she continued her devotion to her faith by joining Fairfield Baptist Church. Her unwavering devotion to God guided her life and inspired all of us who were blessed to know her.
But perhaps most importantly, Ardelia treasured her family above all else. She taught us the importance of togetherness, a lesson she instilled in every one of her children and grandchildren. Her birthday dinners, as well as Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas gatherings were more than just meals, they were joyous celebrations of love and connection. Through these gatherings, Ardelia created a legacy of unity and warmth that will forever remain in our hearts. She showed us that family is everything, and it is our responsibility to nurture those bonds. In her memory, we will carry on her traditions, ensuring that her spirit lives on in the way we come together.
Ardelia Rollins is survived by her two sons, Ricardo Rollins and Eric Rollins, as well as her seven grandchildren, Raven Rollins, Nicole Rollins, Nicholas Rollins, Janell Rollins, Michael Rollins, Erica Tucker, and Ciera Knight, and nine great-grandchildren.
