Angelo was born in Santi Cosma e Damiano, Italy. He migrated to Montreal, Canada when he was 5 years old and then Corona, New York when he was 14 years old. Angelo married the love of his life, Laura, in 1978. They made Bayside their home ever since.
Angelo is a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he earned several medals, including the Meritorious Unit Citation. He is fluent in Italian, French, English and Spanish.
Angelo is known as Angelo the Barber. He has been cutting hair in Bayside for almost 50 years. He loved going to work every day. He worked 6 days a week from open to close. He is not only the neighborhood barber, but the neighborhood “mascot”, “mayor”, “legend”, “king”. These are just some nicknames that has stuck with Angelo through the years.
Angelo will not just be remembered for his buzz cuts. He will be remembered for his infectious personality and huge heart. All who loved him will never forget his tenacity, wit, and charm, but most of all the love and generosity he gave them. Angelo was always the life of the party or dinner table. He is known for his long, entertaining stories, which he loved to repeat often. He was also a great cook. He loved making antipasto platters and called his sauce a masterpiece.
Angelo was a committed, loyal family man (just as he was to his lotto numbers). Faithfulness to the important people in his life could be seen in the way he maintained ties with his childhood friends or friendships of 30, 40, and 50 years. He loved his wife Laura with every bone in his body. He called her multiple times a day and paced the whole first floor of the house until she came home from the supermarket. His first born, Valeria, was Daddy’s Girl. He has always been protective of his two girls. Even at their ages of 40 and 35 he treated them like they were in diapers. If the weather forecast showed a sprinkle of snow he called his girls to make sure they stayed home and off the road.
Angelo is survived by his wife Laura. Loving father of Valeria Giannotti and Vanessa (Jeff) Brown. Adored grandfather of Anthony & Angela Brown.
Dear Brother of Adriana (Pietro), Mario and the late Maritsa (Cosmo). Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in Angelo’s memory to American Martyrs Catholic War Veterans Post 1772.
