Richard Joseph Murphy transitioned to heaven on May 20, 2022, to join the Lord and our extended heavenly family. He died from respiratory failure. There was a big celebration when Rick arrived in heaven. Rick was known for being loving, loyal, his bright blue eyes and magnetic smile, Irish, handsome, adventurous, quick with a joke or story, animal lover, and fun! He left a gigantic hole in his family’s and friends’ hearts that can never be replaced.
Rick graduated from Southwestern HS in 1978 and attended Bakers College. He was very patriotic and served in the Army as a medical specialist in Wiesbaden, Germany and in the reserves. Rick traveled throughout the US and Europe. He owned Murphy Tree Arbor Service and was a construction worker, painter, and handyman.
Rick is deeply missed by his sister, Carol Murphy Olsby, and her husband, Greg Olsby, and their children, Joshua, Julia, and Jacob and by his brothers, Dan Murphy, and Tom Murphy. We were raised with a deep faith in God and know we will be reunited with Rick in the future.
A prayer service will be held on Thursday, June 9 at 5.30 p.m. at St. Roberts Church, 310 N Cherry St, Flushing, MI 48433. On June 15, a full military service with honors will be held for Rick at the Tahoma Military National Cemetery located in the Seattle area near his sister and her family. If you want to recognize Rick, please spread kindness wherever you go. God bless you.
