Most Reverend James Frederick McCarthy, Sr., age 73 of Flushing, passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2019. He was born on June 4, 1946 in Flint to parents Frederick and Eleanor (Scott) McCarthy. James was Bishop of Emmanuel Catholic Church in Saginaw, a retired educator, and master electrician. He had a very giving heart and donated to every charity that he could. James was a member of the Flushing Senior Center Writer’s Group, the Flint Theatre Organ Club, and was an avid railroad enthusiast. More than anything, he loved his family and being a grandpa. James is survived by his children: Jim (Celena Carrera) McCarthy, Jr., Michael Scott (Tonya) McCarthy, Kerrey McCarthy, Andelyna (Greg) Combs, Jennifer McCarthy-Lowe, Tamara (Chris) Pugh, Angela (Troy) McCarthy-Kidd; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; siblings: Thomas (Robin) McCarthy and Patricia McCarthy; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; his furbaby, Mr. Peabody. He was preceded in death by both parents; baby sister, Kathleen; and longtime best friend, Barbara McCarthy-Moorman. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 3pm on Friday, November 8, 2019 at Reigle Funeral Home, 5501 W. Pierson Rd., Flushing. Visitation will take place on Thursday, November 7, 2019 from 4-8pm and again on Friday, from 12 noon until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make a contribution to Camp Fishtail or your favorite charity in memory of James.
