NICHOLAS, David K. – Age 87, of Flint, died Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at Avalon Hospice. Mr. Nicholas was born May 10, 1925 in Saginaw, the son of Samuel and Maude (Cooper) Nicholas. Dave graduated from Midland High School in 1943 and from the University of Michigan in 1950. He served his country with the U.S. Army during W.W.II. Mr. Nicholas retired from A.C. Spark Plug in 1984, where he was a Systems Analyst. Dave played percussion with the Flint Concert Band, the A.C. Spark Plug Band and several local groups. He was a lifetime member of the Flint Federation of Musicians. Mr. Nicholas volunteered with the American Red Cross for over 20 years and was a Lector and Eucharistic Minister at St. Agnes Catholic Church. Surviving are his children, Laurie Jankowski, Mary Anne Coffman, Barbara (Andrew) Kent, Jeanne Nicholas, David (Kelli) Nicholas; grandchildren, Kyle, Lauren, Chris, Brittany, Chelsea, Andy, Ben, Zac and Alexander. Mr. Nicholas was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, his parents, brother, Richard and son-in-law, Paul Jankowski. Friends may visit the family from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Reigle Funeral Home. A Scripture Service will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday, October 8, 2012 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Father Douglas Osborn will officiate. Burial will follow at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Flint Chapter of the American Red Cross.
