Cecil Louis Johnson

Cecil Louis Johnson, age 68, of Flint, Michigan passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2023.

He was born in Flint in 1954 and grew up on Barrie Street. Cecil graduated from Flint Southwestern High in 1972 and immediately joined the Navy where he served in the Submarine service for many years as a Sonar Technician aboard nuclear submarines. He served aboard several boats including the USS Finback, before his Honorable Discharge in 1988.

Cecil is remember by his dear friend Michael J. Thorp, who met Cecil at Scout camp in 1968 at Camp Tapico. For years Cecil would send Christmas cards to Michael as early as October, sometimes even September because; he was under, literally, under the sea on duty.

Over the years, when he found himself near a pay phone and in an interesting place Cecil would call Michael be an on-the-spot reporter on Michael's radio shows on WTRX and WKMF; this in the days before cell phones. He had to find a pay phone.

The last couple of years have been a struggle for Cecil having suffered several strokes.

He was a great scout, a Vigil Honor member of scouting’s national honor society, the Order of the Arrow, a Navy veteran and a good friend.
