I remember Vince Thompson as an intelligent, self-taught, insightful, caring, kind, loving, successful, generous and humble man.  Vince lived a clean, productive, active and nurturing life.  He valued education and always encouraged his children to become life-long learners.  Vince was great at telling jokes and would often challenge friends and family with thought-provoking mental puzzles.  Vince was usually the life of the party (often with games that he invented) and would always become engaged with the children.

I admire his accomplishments (some of) which include: surviving The Great Depression, having three successful children (with Rena's help), six intelligent and beautiful granchildren, having a successful career and retiring from Sysco Food Services, building a house in NJ, building two houses in FL and enjoying a beautiful 25 year retirement with Rena in Palm Coast FL (where Vince
was known as the Social Director).  Vince was also known as Superman when he was beating 60 yr. olds in tennis when he was in his 80's!

I don't think Vince could have lived a better life.  In addition to the above mentioned accomplishments,  he outlived his father by about 10 years and outlived his siblings as well.  He achieved his goal of being a life-long learner.  Everyone liked Vince because he was a very kind, caring, compassionate and gentle soul.  Few men live their lives with hearts as pure as Vince's. Dear Rene'e & Family,
We are so sad to hear of Vincents' passing. He was a terrific man who made everyone feel special ! As a Brother-in-Law he was the
BEST ! We always had such special times with our families and friends ! Vince was an example of what people should be. 
Knowing him for more than 60+ years, we never heard a negative thought from him. He was so respectful and kind.  A creative
person who loved having a good time planning and playing games
with everyone.  Knowing and loving him was a real treat for our
family.  Vince will be remembered not only for accomplishing 
many  things in his life, but for having the good sense of marrying Rene'e and help raise their loving and respectful children.  May God watch over our kind "Gentleman" who will be missed by all who knew him !

Over the years Vinny, David and I have played a lot of golf together. I remember one occasion. 
We had teed off at the 16th at Palm Harbor. As we approached the green Vinny turned toward the rough. After searching at length he finally found his ball lying deep in the grass. 
Back in the fairway Dave and I smugly offered a side bet. To our amazement Vinny accepted, whereupon he took a square stance and followed by a mighty swing the ball came flying out soaring high into the sky over a wide sand trap and landed gently on the green and with two bounces settled right into the cup. 
Vince was ecstatic as we stood amazed and chagrined.
Later I wondered why Vince never cashed the check. Turns out it had been framed and was hanging on the wall for all to see!!!


I didn’t see Uncle Vince very much, but when I thought of him I always  remembered his kind, loving and warming smile.  He always made me feel special.  I think he had made everyone feel like that.  
What a great man
He will be missed, but heaven gained an angel.

Uncle Vince was a wonderful man, personable with a great sense of humor.  My fondest memory is when he taught me  to tie a knot at age 12 or 13; to this day I think of him every time I tie one!  Love, your nephew, Kenny.

Vince was truly one of God's special people.    He loved life and his enthusiasm  was contagious .   He was always a joy to be with.  He and Renee have been our most special friends for 30 years.   We loved traveling with them and had so many fun trips.   One of my favorite trips was our trip to Italy.   I feel fortunate  to have so many cherished memories.   He loved his family and was so proud of his 3 children and 6 grandchildren.    Saying goodbye to him was very tough.  In our last conversation,  he said he was ok and that he had had a  wonderful wife, a great life and was on his way out.    I feel blessed to have had him as a friend and will miss him.

How do you say goodby to a best friend?  Vince has been so much a part of my life since Barb and I met him and Renee at the Player's Club some 30 years ago.  He was an unusual man; incredibly kind, always upbeat and very competitive.  Vince loved games of every kind including tennis, golf, poker, baseball, horse racing and on and on.  The annual Kentucky Derby party that he and Renee held grew so large that it became impossible to find a venue big enough to hold it.  Vince reveled in organizing games, playing them and, of course, winning them.  But he was also a gracious loser.  He was a good athlete and played semi-pro baseball while serving his country.  We traveled to many places together including their 50 anniversary trip to Italy.  

People like Vince don't often come into your life but when they do they make it richer, more enjoyable and fun. We expected to celebrate with him at 90 but the Lord had other plans for Vince. To say he will be missed is not sufficient;  our lives will be greatly diminished by his absence but we will carry his memory until  we too are  called.  

So, I cannot say goodby my friend.  Vince, I'll see ya later.

The sunset of your amazing life brings many fond memories of childhood visits that were fun and exciting.  Never a dull moment when you visited Uncle Vince.  I don't think I ever saw you without a smile or ready to share a laugh.

Many people were waiting to greet you in Heaven.  May we all take comfort in knowing that this is not the end.  It's the beginning of life eternal with our Lord and Savior.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
