Shirley Duncan was born on February 28, 1941, in Kingston, Jamaica, to the late Edgar Duncan and Jane Terrelongs. In her early years in Jamaica, she attended primary and secondary schools. After graduating, she became a great seamstress. She designed clothes, which was a great accomplishment that she was proud of.
Shirley's journey took her to the USA in the early 60s, where she continued to pursue her dreams. Her dedication to her craft was evident as she designed bridesmaid dresses for several of her nieces' weddings. Later, she embarked on a fulfilling career as a Development Assistant at the Letchworth Village facility in Thiells, New York City.
After 25 years of service working with Letchworth, Aunty retired and relocated to Florida, where she bought her home in Palm Coast, in 2004. She was so excited to build her own home that you could always see the joy on her face when she visited the construction site.
Aunt Shirley's love for her family was boundless. She cherished family gatherings, always the first to arrive and the last to leave, ensuring she greeted everyone with her warm smile. She received The Duncan Family Association Honor Award. Her love for travel, shopping, and her favorite soap opera, 'Young and The Restless ', was only surpassed by her love for her family. She was a generous soul, strong-willed, and never hesitated to speak her mind.
Aunty was called home on July 8, 2024, surrounded by her loving niece (Marica Delaphena), who dedicated three years of her life as her caregiver. Marica was always there for Auntie until she took her last breath.
Shirley leaves us to cherish her fond memories: sister, Daisy Duncan, brother, Lloyd Duncan, niece, Marica Delaphena, nephew, Clive Delaphena, hosts of nieces, nephews, godsons, friends and relatives.
Shirley was preceded in death by her father Edgar Duncan and mother Jane Terrelongs.
