Renate (Betz) Downing

Renate Betz Downing passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 8th 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernst Betz and Irma Silfang Betz, of Friedrichshafen, Germany. She is survived by her sister, Lore Betz Hermann of Germany. She is also survived by her children, Iris Straub, Isabel Straub, Ilona Pomeroy (Charles), Patrick Straub and one granddaughter, Grey. She was born in Friedrichshafen, Germany and emigrated to the US in the early 1960's. She lived in NYC, Valley Stream, NY, Bedford Hills, NY, Danbury, CT and Palm Coast, FL. She spent her working years as a hairdresser in various salons in NY and CT, She loved her pet cats and all animals dearly. She was also an avid bird watcher and enjoyed sandy beaches in her spare time. Services will be private. If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's research.
