

March 10, 2025 at the age of 100. Born in Keansberg, NJ, Ray served as a Private First Class
during WWII in the South Pacific where he was involved in the infamous Guadalcanal Invasion.
He was only 17 at the time and had to have permission to enlist at a young age. After serving
his time with the Marine Corps, he worked for Allstate Insurance Company, Woodloch Pines
Resort, and the Wallenpaupack Area School District where he was affectionately known as
“Papa Ray.” He had a passion for fixing old cars and owned an auto repair shop. He remained a
committed member to the Flagler County Marine Corps League and the local VFW, who just last
June, commemorated his 100th birthday with a celebratory procession.
He is survived by his two daughters, Lana Romeo of Lackawaxen, Pennsylvania and Cherylynn
Rice of Flagler Beach, Florida, as well as four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He
loved his family and friends dearly and will be missed by all.
Services will be held Friday, April 11, 2025 at 11:00 am at Santa Maria Del Mar Catholic Church
in Flagler Beach, FL followed by a military funeral at the National Cemetery in Jacksonville
where he will be laid to rest with his fellow Marines.
