Jo Ann was born in Roselle, New Jersey on March 17, 1935 to the late Wilbert & Thelma (Crist) Smith.
After graduating from Abraham Clark High School, Jo Ann enjoyed a 30 year career with Jersey Bell Telephone, retiring as a Senior Service Analyst in 1991.
After “retirement” to Palm Coast, Florida, Jo Ann found great joy working on the Hammock Dunes Toll booth for 18 years. Her warm, outgoing personality was a friendly welcome to residents, visitors, children and pets - who enjoyed her special treats. Jo Ann enjoyed watching children grow up during her tenure on the toll bridge.
Jo Ann loved traveling, shopping, decorating and collecting lighthouses. She enjoyed dining with friends and family in her youthful years. She had an amazing memory, never forgetting a birthday or special anniversary. She especially loved St. Patrick’s Day, and enjoyed sharing a birthday on that fun and festive holiday. Jo Ann’s favorite holiday was Christmas, as noted by her beautiful collection of ornaments, decor and keepsakes. Jo Ann loved cats, and was fondly referred to as “Grandma Kitty” by one of her grandchildren. She was Englebert Humperdinck’s #1 fan, enjoying many concerts throughout the years.
Jo Ann’s family and friends will remember her as a kind, compassionate, thoughtful, conscientious and hard working Mother, wife and friend. She made an impression on everyone she met and will be missed.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Bunassar of Palm Coast, step daughters Denise Vreeland of Palm Coast, FL, Cheryl Wisenbaker (Tony) Beaumont, Texas. Grandchildren: Kelly Walsh, Scott Walsh, Cassaundra Walsh. Sisters in law Carol Moersdorf (Charlie) of Neshanic Station, NJ, Betty Molnar of Forked River, NJ, and numerous nieces and nephews. She and her late husband Charles enjoyed 40 years of marriage, and a Christmas Eve anniversary date.
A private service will be held at Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home. Under the direction of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Clergy. Inurnment to follow at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery. The family appreciates your prayers.
