Jessie Edward “Ed” Buckner beloved husband, Father and Papa departed this earth peacefully to join his Lord on January 22, 2021. Ed was born on May 20, 1938 in Bunnell, Florida and remained a lifetime resident of Flagler County. Ed was the son of the late Bessie O. (Medders) Mann and John Boone Buckner. He is preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Nettles and a brother, Eugene “Bird” Buckner. Also preceding Ed was his loving wife, Dorothy “Dottie” (Howell) Buckner, and Vivian “Grace” Gantt. He is survived by a son Johnny Buckner of Bunnell, Florida and a Daughter Dolores Louise (Wolf) Harper of Palm Coast. Grand Children include Johnny Buckner Jr., Jessie Buckner, Brandon Wolf, and Sarah Buckner; and two great-grandchildren as well.
He attended elementary and high school in Bunnell Florida. Ed served nine years in the National Guard and was a proud and honored veteran. He worked as a land surveyor and land management heavy equipment foreman until retirement. Ed was an expert handyman and enjoyed building, fixing or carving gifts and toys for friends and grandchildren. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bunnell, Florida and a devoted Christian.
A traveler and avid camper, Ed and his family were often found enjoying Florida springs, South Florida, Jekyll Island, New York and the Grand Canyon. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with friends and family.
Ed never met a stranger and was a true Southern Gentleman. His devotion to God, his family and his community exemplified the persona of an American hero. He will be greatly missed by all. But especially by his loving daughter who cared for him in his later years with love and greatness that only a Daddy can deeply appreciate.
Family and friends will be received, Wednesday, January 27, 2021 from 11:00 AM till 1:00 PM at Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home, 511 Old Kings Road South in Flagler Beach. A Graveside service will take place at 2:00 PM at Espanola Cemetery.
