Jean attended and graduated from Public School #44 and East New York Commercial High School in Brooklyn, New York. Upon graduation for a short period of time, due to illness, attended New York City Community College.
On January 6, 1946, Jean married her childhood sweetheart, Philip Claude Blythe.
Jean was employed for many years by the New York State Insurance Company. She then joined the ranks of Civil Servant and was employed by the New York City Housing Authority in New York for thirty years until her retirement in 1982.
The love of traveling was her life. She was privileged to set foot on every continent with the exception of Antarctica. She She amassed on abundance of friends in Manhattan and Brooklyn through her home entertainment of lunches and dinners. Those friends throughout the years.
After being a resident of Brooklyn and Manhattan for many years, she relocated to Palm Coast, Florida. While there, she shared an affiliation with St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
Jean worked for Kelly Home care in Ormond Beach, Florida from which she retired in 2006.
She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Doris Nixon, her nephew Robert Nixon, Sr., and his wife Charlene of Palm Coast, Florida, her nephews, Keith, Roger and Carl Nixon of New York. Grand-niece, Candice Sylvan of Newport News, Virginia, Step-Brother, Ryan Shervington of Lost Angeles, California, Step-Sister, Marguerite Ruggle and her husband James, niece Danielle and Brittany of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Cousins, James and Yolaine Goodridge, Benjamin and Gladys Wilson, Benjamin Wilson, Jr., Celeste Skeete, Preston Crump, Kyle and David Goodridge, James and Lynette Callendar, Meta Washington, devoted lifelong friend, Ivy Edwards, Geraldine Jordan and Lillian Madison
Family and friends will be received Monday, from 2-4 PM at Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home, 511 Old Kings Road South in Flagler Beach. Funeral Service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 AM at St. Thomas Episcopal Church with Rev. Robert Goolsby officiating.
