Gerald M. Murphy, Sr., 83, of St. Augustine, FL, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2023, due to natural causes. Surrounded by his loving wife of 23 years, Patricia, and his son, Thomas, Gerry left behind a legacy of cherished memories. Born on March 26, 1940, to John and Catherine Murphy, Gerry is survived by his wife Patricia, sister Margaret O’Neill, and his children Diane, Michael, Thomas, Jerry, and Tim. He is deeply missed by his nine grandchildren, whose presence brought him immeasurable joy and love. Gerry was preceded in death by his brothers Jack and Bobby, his son Robert, and stepson Christopher.
Gerry's journey began in the Bronx, NY, where he was born and raised. As a young man, he served in the Navy as a mechanic, stationed in Pensacola, FL. Following his military service, Gerry returned to New York and embarked on a successful career as a Union Iron Worker with Local 197, contributing to shaping the iconic Manhattan skyline. Together with his former wife, Ann, they raised their six children in Levittown, NY.
Retirement blessed Gerry with many fulfilling years. During this time, he and Pat explored the world, creating lasting memories with friends, children, and grandchildren. They settled on Fenwick Island, DE, fully embracing the beach lifestyle. Gerry found great pleasure in traveling with Pat, spending quality time with his grandchildren, and observing hummingbirds at his numerous feeders. In recent years, Gerry and Pat relocated to St. Augustine, FL, to be closer to family, continuing to enjoy the warmth of the beach and the visits of their loved ones.
Private services will be held in Palm Coast, FL, and Berwyn, PA, to honor Gerry's memory and celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests considering a donation to Vitas Community Connection in Gerry's memory.
