Georgia King Canakaris

Georgia King Canakaris of Ormond Beach, passed away on April 10, 2021. She was born in Greensboro, North Carolina to the late Vincent Allen and Virginia King (Emerson). As a little girl she moved to Jacksonville, Florida where she was raised. Georgia was one of the original stewardesses for American Airlines and worked there for several years. She also owned “Georgia’s” which was an upscale linens & lingerie store in Ormond Beach. Georgia was one of many founding members for several charitable organizations including the Bunnell Free Clinic known today as the Flagler Free Clinic. She hosted “Putin on the Ritz” for the Children’s Home Society, “Children’s Dream Ball” for St. James Episcopal Church. She was the most gracious entertainer often hosting many charitable events at her estate Kanaterra. Georgia was also very active in her church teaching bible study and serving on the Vestry. She will always be remembered as a “Southern Belle” who was a loving wife, mother, friend and a champion of the community. Donations in her memory may be made to: Flagler Free Clinic or St. James Episcopal Church in Ormond Beach. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. John M. Canakaris in 2012; sister, June King Barron; brother-in-law, Harvey Barron. Survivors include her son, John M. Canakaris Jr., Daughter-in-law, Amy Canakaris; grandchildren, Maria & Drew Canakaris; nephews, Kelly Rives, Jimmy Capeneka; niece, Cheryl McNair; and many more loving relatives and wonderful friends.
