Flora Smith, age 70 peacefully passed away on June 20, 2023 in Daytona Beach, Florida. Born in Capua, Italy her family moved to Yonkers, New York where she lived until 1977. Flora married Jack Smith on September 24, 1977 and were residents of Elizabeth, NJ and Bridgewater, NJ before moving to Ormond Beach, FL in June of 2005.
Flora was a dedicated Registered Nurse, receiving her BSN from St. Peter's University, and after 50 years of service she retired in 2020. She was raised in the Catholic faith and attended church at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bunnell, FL.
Flora and Jack were each other's best friend for forty eight years and when Flora became ill, Jack was committed to making the remainder of her life most enjoyable and comfortable. The Smiths were avid cruisers enjoying the company of traveling with close friends Joe and Lorraine.
They took many road trips North to see loved ones and friends in NJ, NY, and CT including trips to California to visit children and grandchildren. Flora is best remembered by her family as an incredibly gifted cook, a great conversationalist, a kind and supportive friend, a loving stepmother, devoted grandmother, and incredible aunt, and wonderful sister.
She loved all things Tom Selleck, and most recently actor and Outlander actor, Jamie Fraser, watching movies, listening to the oldies and country music, and was our family's all time Yahtzee and Boggle champion.
Flora is predeceased by her younger brother Anthony DeSimone who passed away on June 17th, her parents Carmine and Maria DeSimone, sister in law Cathy Karczewski and brothers in law Ken Mayer and Paul Daniele, mother in law Helen Smith and father in law Ben Smith. She is survived by husband Jack, stepchildren Michaela Joyce (Brad), Brennan Smith (Summer), and four grandchildren Ryan Joyce (Nina), Hailey, Terra, and Juliette Smith.
She will be deeply missed by sister Lisa Mayer, niece Stacie Damiana (Michael), their children Nicholas, Christian, and Michael, nephew Scott Mayer and his children Justin and Brynn. Also surviving are sister in law Karren, brother in law Stephen Karczewski and their families along with several cousins and former co-workers. She is remembered fondly by a community of supportive and loving neighbors who all share in our family's grief.
Our family would like to acknowledge and thank the many medical professionals who cared for Flora throughout her illness. No services are planned at this time, a celebration of life will follow in the near future.
