Graveside services for Ernest “Fred” Collins, D.D.S. 85 of Ormond Beach FL will be on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at 11:00 AM in Strickland Memorial Cemetery, Bunnell, FL. Military Honors will be rendered by the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard. Fred passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2023 in Halifax Health Hospice Care Center, Ormond Beach. Fred was born on November 16, 1937 in Lexington OK a son of the late Ernest W and Margaret (Kienlen) Collins
The family moved to Fort Worth, TX in 1946 and Fred graduated from Arlington Heights High School where he received an Eagle Scout award with three palms and was a member of the National Honor Society and graduated in 1956. He received a 5 year scholarship from General Dynamics for college. Fred graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1960 with a BS Degree in Physics, Math and Chemistry and had been on the Dean’s List. He furthered his education at Baylor College of Dentistry where he graduated in 1963. He was licensed to practice dentistry in Oklahoma, Texas and Florida. He was selected into the U.S. Air Force Hospital Dental internship program at the USAF Hospital Andrews in Washington DC in June 1963 and successfully completed his rotation in July 1964. He then moved as a commissioned officer to F.E. Warren Hospital, U.S. Air Force Base in Cheyenne, WY. Fred was discharged in July 1966 and he opened his practice of dentistry in Clewiston FL in July 1966 and practiced until his retirement in 2012 when he moved Ormond Beach FL. Ernest “Fred” Collins was a member of the Community Baptist Church in Bunnell FL.
Fred is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Hargett Collins, his son, David (Julie) Collins , his daughter, Sydney (Michael) Cameron, both of Clewiston FL, his son, Chris Miller of Stuart FL, six grandchildren, Daniel (Jennifer) Collins of Lake Worth FL, Lauren (Michael) McGinnis of Clewiston FL, Alyssa (Michael) Willson of Tallahassee FL, Brett Cameron of New York, NY, Chase Miller of Ormond Beach FL, and Jared Miller of Stuart FL, two great-grandchildren, Sam and Cait Willson, one sister, Judy (Chuck) Williams of Carrollton TX, five nieces, one nephew, seven great nieces and six great nephews in Texas.
