Duane was born July 20, 1932 in Cresco, Iowa. He married the love of his life, Marlys Stastny in Cedar Rapid and had five children. They lived in the same house in Iowa surrounded by many wonderful neighbors until he retired and moved to Flagler Beach, Florida.
He is survived by 3 children, Glen, Greg and Guy Kostka, grandchildren, Dirk and Dreu Whiting, Nicole, Alyssa and Cash Kostka, Kyle, Dillon and Brett Kostka, and also many great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Joann Lewis, Bob Leitz, Rick Leitz, and Nancy Crow.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marlys, children, Vicki Whiting and Gene Kostka, brother, Norman Kostka and sister, Sherie Dietzenbach.
Duane worked at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids for 30+ years before retiring at 55, where he was instrumental in building the radio that was on the first spaceship that landed on the moon in 1969.
Duane was the "go to" man of the neighborhood of "Fair Oaks", as he could fix or build anything for anybody and was happy to do it.
Some of the things he was extremely proficient at or enjoyed doing were: mathematics, electronics, computers, carpentry. He was a master chess player, great fisherman, shooting pool, and of course, being the life of the party.
