Rosemarie is survived by 4 of her 5 children, her youngest sister; Dorothy Smith of Los Angeles, several nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and ex husband W. Marr, all living throughout the United States. Mom was an avid adventurer who spent much of her time while raising her kids and much of the time after, in nature. From multi week-long camping trips with goods rented by Dad from the Military, to cross country trips when our Dad was stationed from California to Rhode Island, she took care of us, and made sure we learned something along the way.
Mom was an awesome cook, and we ate well and most everything while growing up. She was proud of her work as a Sous Chef at Hyatt Hotels and was even a cook on an oil rig resupply ship on the Bearing Sea of Alaska. Well known for her fun and informative cooking classes offered through the local Community College, she continued to teach cooking and sharing her love of foods and what it did to bring people together, all through her life.
Music and singing was important to her. Having been a singer when we were young (in a local nightclub), and then later in life with the Sweet Adeline acapella singers, performing in Carnegie Hall in NY city, she always had the turntable on, while we were growing up.
Moving to Oahu in the Hawaiian Islands in the late nineties, for a job as a Program Coordinator with the Elder Hostel Program, she took no time finding friends and ways to engage in the beauty and Aloha spirit so prevalent in the islands. She was an award winning Volunteer at Hanauma Bay underwater preserve (giving soon to be President Obama & family a tour), the Ronald McDonald House and the Kapi' Olani Hospital-known for baking and sharing her yummy Triple Ginger Cookies. As an usher at UNITY Church in Diamond Head and volunteer in the kitchen, she continued to befriend those in need and share her Aloha spirit.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held in the future in Hawaii. The family asks that any donations be made in memory of Rosemarie to the Ronald McDonald house in Honolulu -https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/rmhchawaii (or in their community), or the Pacific Whale Foundation https://www.pacificwhale.org/. Rest in peace and enjoy the beach Mom.
