Mildred Louise Ball of Fayetteville, WV went home to be with her Jesus on Friday, March 15th, 2024, the morning of her 94th birthday. She was surrounded by family at Bowers Hospice House where she was lovingly cared for during her final weeks of life. She was born to Anton “Pete” Grunenberg and Sally Webster Grunenberg on March 15th, 1930 in Oak Hill, WV.
Mildred married Thomas “Jim” Ball in 1949 where they made Beckwith, WV their home. She loved sewing and crafting, where wreaths and raggedy ann dolls were her specialties. She took pride in being able to be a devoted homemaker for her four children and her husband.
Mildred was a strong woman of faith. At the age of 28, she invited her sweet Jesus into her life. She was carried by His grace, fearless in His strength, and empowered by His love. She was very passionate about sharing the Lord with her family and friends. She attended Fayetteville First Church of God, where she taught Sunday School for many years and loved being part of the “over the hill gang”.
To know Mildred was to love her. Her sweet and kind soul touched every person she crossed paths with. Mildred is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas Ball; son, T.J. Ball; sister, Margaret Lattanzi; brothers, Bill and Don Grunenberg; Grandson, Jeremy Bell; and numerous other loved ones in heaven.
She is survived by her children; Dana (Jean) Ball of Charleston, Tara (Jay) Criss of Fayetteville, and Tim (Kim) Ball of Fayetteville; her daughter-in-law Terri Ball; 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Bowers Hospice House of Southern West Virginia for caring so well for Mildred. The staff went above and beyond not only making sure Mildred’s needs were met, but also the family’s.
The family will receive family and friends on Wednesday, March 20th from 6pm-8pm at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 21st at 2pm at Fayetteville First Church of God with Pastor Tony Bailey officiating.
