Helen L. Hess was born on November 21st, 1927 in Nemacolin, PA. She passed away peacefully on July 3rd, 2017, in the afternoon in her home, surrounded by her loved ones. Helen was the daughter of Thomas and Emma Davies. She grew up with six siblings, Genevieve, Elizabeth, Marian, Kathleen, Gil and Tom. She was a member of the Light Opera Guild, the Eastern Star and the South Charleston Methodist Choir. Helen attended WVU on a full music scholarship. In 1947 she met the love of her life, Robert H. Hess. They married in Morgantown, WV. They later moved to South Charleston where they shared their life and raised two sons, Robert and Alan Hess. Helen loved Summersville Lake, the beach, flowers, cooking, and singing, which she continued to do beautifully until her final week. When she was blessed with her two grandchildren, Amy and Alan Hess, Jr, her life changed forever. She loved them unconditionally until her last day. Helen leaves behind her husband, Robert H. Hess, her son Robert H. Hess, Jr, son, Alan F. Hess, daughter in law, Susan M. Hess, grandson Alan F. Hess, Jr, granddaughter Amy R. Evans, her husband Matthew N. Evans, and her great grandsons Banyan R. Evans and Baylen M. Evans. She will never be forgotten. A celebration of her life will be held at the family farm in Fayetteville on Thursday evening, July 6th, 2017.
