Chuck served in the US Army Engineer Brigade from 1965 to 1969 serving most of his time in Viet Nam. He was very talented and had many hobbies throughout his lifetime such as driving race cars, fishing, playing chess, boating and woodwork. He was also very involved with sports in Oak Hill, WV and played a big part in the building of the softball fields at the High School.
Chuck is survived by his son Shannon Smith and wife Traci of Oak Hill, daughter Christy (Smith) Wasson and husband Michael Wasson of Princeton, IN. He is also survived by his Grandchildren Lindsay (Smith) Adkins (Curtis), Kyle “Bubba” Smith (Maddie), Caitlyn Wasson Moline (Cameron) and Charles “C.J.” Wasson. He also had 9 Great Grandchildren, CJ Adkins, Whitney Adkins, Luke Adkins, Ethan Adkins, Liam Dossett, Kyler Smith, Eli Merritt, Elle Moline and Everette Moline. He is also survived by his brother, James “Jamie” Smith (Renee), sisters , Lynn McNichols and Darlene Schreck, as well as former wife Saundie Smith. He was preceded in death by his father, Cline Smith and Mother, Barbara Workman as well as his nephew Jared Smith.
Chuck wishes were to donate his body to science, however due to COVID this was not an option. His children are choosing to hold a memorial service at a later date.
