Betty Rice Blake Campbell passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 85 on February 25, 2020 at the Hidden Valley Nursing Home in Oak Hill, West Virginia. Born on May 27, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Albert ‘Bert’ and Vida Lusk Rice of Hilltop, West Virginia.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Johnny Rice, Donald Rice, Danny Rice, Albert ‘Junior’ Rice, Jr. and Alva Rice; her sisters Stella Rice Burgess and Beulah Rice Scruggs.
Left to cherish her memory, include her two daughters, Cynthia Campbell of Alexandria, Virginia and Brenda Brunelle of Hampton, Virginia.
Betty was a talented seamstress and tailor. She held many positions in her life including as a young woman, waitressing at Howard Johnsons where she met her first husband. She was married to William J. Campbell from Petersburg, Virginia until 1979. They resided in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She worked at Bendix Corporation in Hampton, Virginia for many years. She moved back to West Virginia in 1976, opening up a fabric shop in Hilltop and then a tailor shop in Oak Hill. In 1979 she married John Blake of Oak Hill, West Virginia, who was retired from the Army. She remained married to him until his death in November 2008.
