Travis Duncan Neal, 53, of Annandale, Virginia, passed away on February 2, 2024. Born on March 24, 1970 at Freedman’s Hospital, now Howard University Hospital, to Robert Gene Neal (proceeded him in death) and Diane Eugenia Underdue Neal in Washington, DC. While family and friends that knew and love Travis are profoundly saddened, they will always remember his kind and helpful nature and the impact he had making people happy and laugh even when he was not trying to. His calm nature will forever live in our hearts.
Travis was educated in the Prince Georges County School System in Maryland, and graduated from Parkdale High School in 1988. As a small testimony to his good nature, while in his junior year at Parkdale, Travis prevented a fellow student from getting stabbed by taking a knife from another student. During his High School studies, it was discovered that Travis had Dyslexia, however Travis didn’t let that stop him. He was determined to learn and formulated creative ways to deal with this condition. Travis also joined the Army ROTC at Parkdale. After graduating High School, Travis pursued higher education at Strayer University, where he studied Computer Information Technology. He began his career with FREDDIE MAC in Mclean, VA, where he worked for several years. He also continued his studies at INOVA University. Travis developed Type 2 diabetes and encountered complications from this disease while at FREDDIE MAC and caused him to go on disability.
Travis was blessed with one son, Travon DeAnte Neal, born on September 24, 1990 to him and Permana Clark. Travis was a devoted and caring father. Unexpectedly, Travon passed away on May 1, 2023 and this loss took a great toll on Travis.
Travis leaves to remember him lovingly, his mother, Diane Eugenia (Underdue) Neal. His Uncle Thomas Carlton Underdue of Chicago, IL and Aunts: Michelle Underdue Davis of Atlanta, GA, Brenda Bolden and Ethel “Bae” Neal of Maryland, His sister Tracy Vernice Coriolan of Richmond, VA, his Brothers: Robert Grey Neal of Scottsdale, AZ, and Larry Darnell Neal of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Sister-in-law: Valora Darlene Neal, Nephews: Maurice Lamar Neal, Jameke Coriolan, Andrew Aponte, Anthony Aponte, and Tyrone Thompson. Nieces: Brittany Thompson and Jazmyn Sampson. Goddaughter: Monica Mooten, and Trusted and Dear Friend: Alfreda Rozier, along with countless other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his Father, Robert Gene Neal, his Son, Travon DeAnte Neal, and his Aunt, Rosetta Neal Suggs.
Outside of his professional life, Travis had a variety of hobbies and interests. He enjoyed weightlifting, music (especially Go-Go and R & B), reading, and watching sports, particularly as a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys. However, what brought him the most joy was spending quality time with his family and friends. This is something we will all miss. May his memory forever live on in our hearts.
A celebration service to honor Travis's life will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Murphy Funeral Home located at 1102 West Broad Street, Falls Church, VA 22046.
