Mr. Roland was born September 16, 1951, in Washington, D.C., a son of Robert John Roland and Elizabeth Duffer Roland. He grew up in Falls Church, VA, attending St. James Catholic School in Falls Church and graduating from Bishop O’Connell High School in Arlington.
After graduating from the University of Dayton in 1973 with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, he began his professional career at the former Hydrotronics Corp., where he met his future wife, Gayle Harouff. They married in 1979 and moved to Burke, VA, where they raised two sons.
In 1980, Mr. Roland accepted a position at TASC (The Analytic Sciences Corporation)
where he worked for 30 years, becoming a manager of operations and finances for several of the company’s business sectors.
His interests included drag racing, golf, baseball, the University of Dayton, Dayton basketball, and the Roland Family Beach Week.
As a child, he loved to watch the Washington Senators and remained a faithful fan. In 2005, he transferred his loyalties to the Nationals when Washington once again became a Major League Baseball town. He was overjoyed to witness the Nats bring home a World Series championship to Washington in 2019.
Mr. Roland was a devoted father who cared deeply for his family. He always stressed service to others and leaving things better than he found them.
He is survived by his wife, Gayle, and his sons, Christopher Michael Roland and Timothy Jason Roland. Also surviving are his brothers, Joseph Roland and Paul Roland. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother David Roland.

A visitation for Michael will be held Monday, January 15, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Murphy Funeral Homes, 1102 West Broad Street, Falls Church, VA 22046. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, January 16, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Nativity Catholic Church, 6400 Nativity Lane, Burke, VA 22015. A graveside service will occur Tuesday, January 16, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM at National Memorial Park, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22042.
