On September 18, 2016, Mary Hazel Parker died peacefully, surrounded by family in Annandale, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harold and her beloved son-in-law, George. She is survived by her sons, Bob (Brenda), Bill (Shelly), daughter, Patty; grandchildren, Brooke (Eric) Christopher (Jen), Whitney (Galen), Sarah, Melissa, Victoria, Brett, Emma and Taylor; great grandchildren, Ryan, Emily and Brady, and sister Mildred of Wilson, NC. Hazel was born in Wilson, North Carolina and moved to Washington, D. C. where she met her beloved husband Harold “Ace” Parker. Known as Hurricane Hazel, she played on the Golden Girls softball team well into her seventies, where they won multiple Senior Olympic gold medals and received accolades on the front page of the Washington Post and was featured on The Today Show. Her generous nature and zest for life was shown in her care and devotion to her children and grandchildren. She was a Fairfax County bus driver for handicapped children for over 20 years and was a very active volunteer in J.E.B. Stuart Boosters, the Falls Church Episcopal Church and multiple other organizations. A funeral service will be held at the National Funeral Home, 7482 Lee Hwy, Falls Church, VA on Friday, September 23, 2016 at 2PM. Interment will follow at National Memorial Park.
