We are sad to announce the passing of Mark Manalo, who left us to be with God on Sunday, March 21, 2021. He passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family. He had been diagnosed at age 46 with a brain tumor in early March 2021. After learning we had only a few more weeks with him, we were glad to spend the time together as a family.
Mark was born, raised, and lived his entire life in Northern Virginia. He graduated from 8th grade at Congressional School in Falls Church, VA and subsequently attended Bishop O’Connell High School in Arlington, VA. He then went on to graduate from George Mason University, where he completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing in 1997. He spent the majority of his professional career after college as a Deposit Account Representative at E*TRADE Bank where he worked for over 20 years.
While we are heartbroken at his loss, we have been overwhelmed by the support of our extended families, spouses and partners, loved ones, coworkers, his health care team, our pets, and others who have held us and Mark in their hearts and minds over the past few weeks. Please know that we appreciate your thoughts and prayers and that we will continue to lean on you for support in the future as well.
Mark is survived by his parents, Dr. Bayani Manalo and Mrs. Ursula Manalo; his older sister, Minna; his younger brother, Jay; his brothers-in-law, Abe and Ethan; and his niece and nephew, Emma and Jack.
Mark, your family will miss having you as a brother, as a son, as an uncle, as a friend, and as a carpool and traveling companion. We hope you are enjoying all the plain hamburgers, fries, and sausage pizza that you can eat up in Heaven. We will miss seeing you with your headphones on, listening to music and reading books and magazines. And we will always remember your gentle, thoughtful, kind, and soft-spoken spirit (and occasional well-timed sense of humor). You always went to the beat of your own drum, and we will always remember you for that. Until we see each other again, we know you are looking down on us. We love you, Mark!
