Marie Gallagher passed away peacefully on May 11 at her home. Marie and her husband moved to Arlington, VA in 1967 from Scranton, Pa. She started working at Arlington Hospital as a R.N. and within a few years was Director of Central Supply there. During the end of her career she went back to nursing in preoperative care, where she stayed until her retirement. Marie was an active member for many years in the Arlington Women’s Pilot club, a service organization where she was awarded several times Arlington’s Service Women of the year. She was also a proud and active member of the Arlington Republican club. During her career as Director of Central Supply, Marie was central to bridging the employment needs of those with developmental challenges and became one of the first in the community to train and employ members of that community.
Predeceasing her was her husband Hugh J. Gallagher and their son, Danny Gallagher. She is survived by her 4 children Hugh(Donna), Joe, Mary Ellen(Paul) and Betsy(Peter). Also surviving her are Chista (Matt) Wood and children. Cherished grandmother of Carly, Ben, John and Meagan Gallagher; Paul, Mary Kathryne, Hugh, Danny and Bridget Bothwell; Colleen, Danny, Kathryne, Mary and Patrick Schauf. Sister’s Joan Golden and Theresa Hartman, sister in law’s Catherine Renga and Patsy Ferguson, brother in law William Hopkins and dozens of nieces and nephews. Viewing will be Tuesday, May 16 from 6 to 8 PM at Murphy’s Funeral Home, 1102 W.Broad St., Falls Church, Va. Mass Wednesday, May 17 at 11 am St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Arlington, Va. Interment will be in Scranton, Pa.
