Luis Emilio Fernandez was born on July 20th, 1942 to Genaro Fernandez and Maria Elena Solis in Lima, Peru. Luis was one of two children; Luis has one younger brother, Julio. He grew up in the Surquillo section of Lima and was an avid church goer at a very early age.
Luis first arrived to the United States in 1970, residing in Washington, D.C. before going back to Peru in 1972. He returned to the United States, this time permanently, in 1982, residing in Arlington, VA for 13 years.
In 1986, Luis and Faustina were married and Luis is succeeded by his two daughters - Betty and Yovana - and his son Luis Javier. The family moved to Falls Church in 1995 and ultimately moved to McLean in 2007.
Following his son's baptism in 2006, Luis started attending regularly at Memorial Baptist Church where he would be an active member of the Spanish Bible Study Group on Sundays. He was a devout believer and had a strong relationship with the Lord.
Only July 22nd, 2014, Luis passed away after valiantly battling pancreatic cancer for the past two months at Georgetown University Hospital.
