Konrad was born in Washington, D.C. to Kenton and Hettie Kurtz on March 22, 1946. He was a graduate of Annandale High School in the
class of 1965.
Konrad became a Fairfax County Firefighter in 1971 and served proudly for 27 years before retiring to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. He moved to St. Augustine, Florida to live his best life with so many of his firefighter friends, with his toes in the sand or his elbows on the bar of the World Famous Oasis. Spending time with friends, telling tall tales and laughing were the things that made him the most happy. His friends and his family meant everything to him.
Konrad is preceded in death by his parents and his beloved sister, Wanda Jeanne LiCalzi (Dannie). He is survived by his children John (Jen), Kim Tzatzaris (Mark) and Jay Pappas (Heidi), his grandchildren, Tyler, Riley, Zach and Addi, his sister Kay Croucher (Barry) and brother Kalvin (Sheila).
Memorial donations may be made to the Firefighters Fund of Fairfax County to provide support to active and retired Fairfax County firefighters & paramedics and their families in times of special need.
Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00pm on Monday, July 17, and funeral services will be at 11:00 am on July 18, with a burial to follow. All will be held at the National Funeral Home in Falls Church, Virginia.
