John Cheng-Jeh Wu (Age 80) of McLean, VA, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2017 surrounded by his wife and children. He was a beloved husband to Jeannette Wu for 47 years, devoted father to Eugene Wu (Victoria), Eudora Wu Miller (Andrew), cherished Gong-Gong to Gracie, Eli, and Marcus, and loving brother to Susan Wu Weston, Cheung-Chu Wu Liao, Ingrid Wu Bates, Grace Wu Chu and Serena Wu Yu. He was predeceased by his parents, Chang Geng Wu and Yen Wei Cho.
After completing his undergraduate studies at the National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan, John moved to the United States in 1964 to further advance his education. He attended The State University of New York at Binghamton where he earned a Master of Science degree, and pursued a PhD, in Economics. John dedicated much of his career as an Economist to studying and publishing materials related to his specialized field of international rare minerals before retiring from the U.S. Geological Survey, U.S. Department of Interior at the age of 72.
In retirement, John and Jeannette were inseparable, spending their time traveling, hosting family and friends and tending to their beautiful gardens. Frequent visits from his grandchildren also brought immeasurable joy to Gong-Gong’s life.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 3pm at National Memorial Funeral Home in Falls Church, VA.
