Jim lived all of his life in Northern Virginia except for the 20 years he served in the Navy, seeing the world and the United States during that time. When he retired from the Navy he rejoined his family back in Virginia and began serving his country in his second career as a government contractor. He also developed several interests, but his true passion became swing and other forms of social dancing. He enjoyed volunteering at Colvin Run Dance Hall's dances and attended dances at several venues in the Washington area, including Colvin Run Dance Hall, and the Glen Echo Spanish Ballroom. He loved traveling to the various national parks out west and was talking about returning to the Grand Canyon in the near future. He was an active member and volunteered with several organizations. The past two years Jim was awarded Officer of the Year of the Elks Club. He was also a member of the local VFW, Moose, American Legion and Northern Virginia Corvette Club.
He is survived by his siblings Carolyn Faraday (Christopher) of Palm Bay, FL; Rita Gregorits (John) of Lewes, DE; Charles Herold of New Port Richey, FL; Thomas Herold of Zephyrhills, FL; John Herold (Christa) of Lovettesville, VA; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will be missed by them and all those he touched in his life.
